Endorsement
Once a policy is issued, you can't edit it directly. Indeed, it may change the policy conditions (premium price, underwriting decision, etc.) and hence, requires approval of the updated policy by the insured.
If you want to update the policy attributes or to change the term dates of the policy, you'll need to use an Endorsement. It contains a set of changes, not yet applied to the policy, which will either be merged with the policy or discard, depending if the endorsement is respectively approved or rejected.
Using a Git analogy, we can consider an endorsement as a branch based on the policy. If the endorsement is approved, then this branch would be merged to the policy. Otherwise, it will be closed.
